Jenifer Bowen Speaks Out Against Assisted Suicide in Des Moines Register Article

Jenifer Bowen, a long-time advocate for life, has been vocal in her opposition to assisted suicide, warning of the dangers it poses to vulnerable individuals. In a 2016 interview with The Des Moines Register titled “Suicide with a helping hand worries Iowans on both sides of ‘right to die'”, Bowen highlighted how legalizing assisted suicide can pressure those who are ill, elderly, or disabled to end their lives prematurely, often due to societal or financial burdens rather than personal choice.

“This story and this data should give all Iowans reason to pause and to ask ourselves: Is this really the path we want to go down,” Bowen stated, emphasizing concerns about the potential for coercion and abuse. She has continued to champion the protection of life at all stages, urging lawmakers and citizens to consider the broader implications of such legislation.

For Bowen, the focus should be on improving palliative care and providing genuine support for those facing end-of-life challenges—not promoting policies that make death a convenient alternative.
